Is it inspired by an episode of “Pimp My Ride?” Whether it is or it’s not is beside the point because it makes for exciting news. News is that next year’s Chrysler Minivans will now be featuring entertainment on the go, care of Blu-ray. The car company developed the concept to give the entertainment system within the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country a higher profile.
Chrysler Group produced 78 minivans for the brand as part of the first innovation batch. The Blu-ray system outfitted in the minivans is meant to increase the car’s entertainment factor (and some of its wow factor as well). The Blu-ray DVD system in the car model is just another improvement in a long list of Chrysler consistency (the list includes such innovative ideas such as Stow ‘n Go seating and a fuel economizer mode). The layout features second- and third-row 9-inch screens. According to a press release, the rear-seat screens have better resolutions compared to the screens present in previous car models.
Some features from the entertainment system sound more appropriate when discussing computer gadgets rather than cars, but that’s another part of Chrysler innovation talking. The 2013 Town & Country, in addition to having upgraded rear-seat Blu-ray and DVD entertainment, will also have a high definition setup that includes two USB ports, one HDMI port, and a 115-volt power inverter, which can be used to charge gadgets such as smartphones, tablets, and MP3 players. It’s hard to imagine, but it already has the beginnings of what you would expect from a home entertainment setup. The only difference is that your “home setup” has four wheels. Another thoughtful inclusion in the latest model is the presence of wireless headsets and a wireless remote that lets you control the entertainment system from the second or third row, so you don’t have to constantly bother the people up front.
The Blu-ray entertainment system will be available for Chrysler minivans released for the coming year. The specific models specifically mentioned are the 2013 Town & Country S, the Town & Country Touring-L, and the Town & Country Limited.
