At the Computex 2011 trade show in Taipei, Taiwan this week, optical disc drive manufacturer Lite-On showed off some of the company’s latest innovations. In addition to the eHBU212 Blu-ray burner which we recently featured here on the CD-Info Blog, the company also gave show visitors a preview of a new technology called “MyDisk Suite.”
Lite-On recently conducted a survey and was shocked to discover that 83% of their customers had not installed the software that comes with the drive because of perceived complexity. As a result, the company developed a new suite of programs in response to how today’s social generation uses disc burners.
MyDisk Suite is an integrated disc burning tool for the PC, iPad and iPhone. With it, users can send data to their desktop or laptop computer’s DVD/CD burner over a wireless network. While this is a convenient way to back up important files, it also gives users a way to transform their digital music, pictures, and movies into a physical format such as a CD-R or DVD-R disc.
The MyDisk suite includes DiskCollection, DiskIndex, DiskCase, and DiskMobile. This set of applications requires only a few steps to use and brings together drag-and-drop disc burning, file/disc indexing, customized autorun menus, personalized disc covers, and iOS image burning.
“Lite-On has built our brand by using innovation to serve consumers. When we discovered the difficulties users had with current burning software, we knew that we had used this ability to create a solution. MyDisk Suite is the first disc software built to fit with the way the social generation uses burners, customizes, and shares. Its rich, simple-to-use interface integrates PC, iPhone, and iPad.” said Marketing Manager Maarten Souren.
Pricing and availability for MyDisk Suite has not yet been finalized. Lite-On will be exhibiting at Computex 2011 through the end of the show on Saturday, June 4th. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information about this exciting new technology becomes available!
